The artificial photosynthesis using photocatalysts to convert CO2 into useful solar fuels is a promising means of sustainable energy-oriented use. Herein, a facile deposition of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) on graphitic carbon nitrite (C3N4 ) photocatalyst for photocatalytic CO2 reduction into solar fuels was reported. The GQDs@C3N4 composites showed more enhanced visible light absorption and lower band gap energy than the pristine C3N4 . The extended response to visible and NIR ranges, and narrower band gaps are probably due to the doping of C which introduces midgap states into the band gap energy of C3N4. Results determined by XRD and FTIR showed that GQDs were successfully deposited on C3N4. The synthesized materials had ability to convert CO2 to MeOH after 8h, proving that GQDs@C3N4 composites are promising candidates for photocatalytic CO2 conversion.
